Hills Passion Play: Performances
every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings during June, July and August. The
show starts at 8 p.m. and runs for 2¼ hours. Ticket prices range from $12 to
$25. Groups of 25 or more receive a discount. For reservations call

Booth Historic Fish Hatchery:
A historic fish hatchery managed by the US Fish and
Wildlife, this is a one of a kind
opportunity. Featuring the USFW museum & hall of fame, a historic home, a
replica fish rail car, ponds, underwater viewing area, bronze sculptures, green
grass and much more. Admission is

At Home Museum:
This museum of the miniature features doll houses, a village with painted
dioramas and gardens. Many of these dollhouses were collected overseas. Unique
dolls and furniture by well-known miniature artists are also on display. The
gift shop offers collector’s miniatures, handmade dolls, and furnishings. To

Plains Western Heritage Center:
Honors
the pioneers and Native Americans with western art and artifacts. See the live
buffalo and longhorn steers as well as the one room schoolhouse and sod dugout.
Year round special programming compliments the focus of the Heritage Center.

Opera House:
A
1906 beauty original to Spearfish’s Main Street, this opera house has been
restored to its original grandeur. It hosts musicals, art shows, concerts,
comedies, and a variety of entertainment options. It is fully air-conditioned
and equipped with an elevator. Contact 605-642-7973 for a current schedule. Termesphere
Gallery:
Globular canvases by Dick Termes hang from ceiling motors in this unique
gallery, another one of a kind
opportunity. Each one is a complete world. This unusual three-dimensional art form
allows you to see the painting from north, south, east, west, and up and down.
See Termespheres on display all around the Black Hills. Creator Dick Termes and
his work are renowned worldwide. Call for tours 605-642-4805. Spearfish Canyon: A must see one of a kind opportunity! Spearfish Canyon is 12 times older than the Grand Canyon and very user friendly. Frank Lloyd Wright, nationally renowned architect, on visiting Spearfish Canyon in 1935: "But how is it that I've heard so little of this miracle and we, toward the Atlantic, have heard so much of the Grand Canyon when this is even more miraculous...My hat is off to South Dakota treasures."
Spearfish Creek will be your companion as you travel this national
scenic byway. Spectacular vistas, irresistible picnic areas, and great trout
fishing are all part of the package. Roughlock Falls is a favorite stop with any
age group, and Bridal Veil Falls is beautiful. Little Spearfish Falls is a
breath-taking reward for the short hike. See where “Dances With Wolves” was
filmed, only moments from Roughlock Falls. The tour is self-guided or a local guide

Tours of Spearfish:
Visit the Spearfish commercial district and learn about the sandstone buildings
and unique architectural traits of the city. Browse your way through the unique
shops and galleries downtown. Take a break at any one of our lovely restaurants.
Or take a drive through Spearfish’s historic neighborhoods and view lovely
restored vintage homes. The tour is self-guided or a local guide can be
arranged. Guidebooks are available at the Chamber’s Visitor Center. Bear
Tour: Real
bears have been gone from the wild in the Black Hills for quite some time. But
local chainsaw carver Mike Dick of Bear’ly Chained Art has made certain they
will not be forgotten. There is quite a collection of chainsaw carved bears all
over Spearfish and the Northern Hills. Pick up a guide at the Chamber’s
Visitor Center. Spearfish
Canyon Country Club: Spearfish’s
golf course is open to the public. Group arrangements can be made by calling
605-642-8479. This challenging 18-hole golf course is located at the mouth of
Spearfish Canyon with beautiful views from every hole. High
Prairie Outfitters: “We
go where the game is.” Custom hunts in various locations in South Dakota for
pheasant, sharptail, prairie chicken, grouse, and turkey. Quality pointers and
retrievers assist. Bow hunts available for turkey, elk and deer. High Prairie
Outfitters specializes in first time hunters, people with disabilities,

Black
Hills Heritage Tour: The northern
hills are rich in lore and legend! The High Plains Western Heritage Center
stands as a tribute to the early citizens of our territory. Native Americans,
ranchers, loggers, and prospectors all carved their place in the area’s
history. Next, we’ll visit the D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery, a Spearfish
landmark and the archive site of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Then,
we’ll travel a scenic highway to Devils Tower, the nation’s first monument.
Before we enter the park, we’ll stop in the Devil’s Tower Trading post to
pick up film or other necessities. On our way back, we’ll visit the Aladdin
General Store. Rich in history, this store has been in operation at this
location for over 100 years. (Approximate time: 6 hours) There’s
Still Gold in Them There Hills:
Enjoy the drive through the Black Hills via Spearfish Canyon, a National Scenic
Byway. We’ll travel to Lead, South Dakota to the Homestake Visitor Center where we’ll share the thrill experienced by the old time prospectors. Gold fever is still evident in
Deadwood, just a few miles down the road. See if you can win your fortune at one
of the historic gaming casinos. (Approximate time: 4 hours) We
Can Move a Mountain:
Okay, so maybe we can’t move mountains, but we can sure carve them! Take the
stunning drive to Mount Rushmore, our national treasure. See the faces up close
from the new hiking trails and interpretive center. Next stop: Crazy Horse
Memorial, the granite sculpture-in-progress. You will see beautiful Black Hills
scenery throughout the day as you travel through the heart of the Black Hills. (Approximate
time: 6 hours) Buffalo
Still Roam Here:
We’re off to Custer State Park where buffalo rule! This tour of the southern
hills is sure to thrill all ages with a herd of over 1,500 buffalo as well as
antelope, deer, fox, turkey, and the famous begging burros. Next, we’ll
explore nature’s underground treasure chest…Jewel Cave National Monument.
Jewel Cave is the second longest cave in the United States. (Approximate
time: 8 hours) Historic,
Therapeutic Hot Springs: First
we’ll visit The Mammoth Site, the only in situ (bones left as found)
display of fossil mammoths in America. This display permits scientists and
visitors to experience a living exhibit of paleontological activity. From there
we’ll go to the Springs Bath House, a reconstruction of the old Sulfur Bath
House that stood on that site over 100 years ago. Enjoy a therapeutic soak in
the 102-degree mineral springs. (Approximate time: 7 hours) |
